In 2009 a friend and I cycled coast to coast across England, from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire. We did this to raise money for a local asylum seekers charity – Common Ground. The distance is just under 200 miles and is based on the Wainwright coast to coast route….. We cycled about thirty miles a day carrying all our camping equipment, food/water, clothing with us. It’s a very hilly route! We covered Whinlatter Pass in Cumbria, the Pennines, and the North York Moors….. I was riding my own ‘recycled’ bike put together from cycles that had been previously skipped. We couldn’t afford campsites, so camped behind walls and hedges in fields, in bracken and in little woodlands where ever we could……We ate really well living off rice cakes, dried fruit, veg and brown rice-no alcohol, no processed sugar! The route was a tough, beautiful adventure, and we managed to raise a bit of money….
